Full steam ahead for Doncaster-based model train business

The UK’s leading supplier of model live steam locomotives for use on G scale, SM32 and SM45 railway layouts, Roundhouse Engineering, is on track for record growth and has been taking advantage of the support on offer from Business Doncaster, a partner of the Sheffield City Region Growth Hub Enhancement Project.

The Enhancement Project is aimed at supporting growth businesses and is financed by the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.

Founded in 1982 by Roger Loxley and based at Churchill Business Park, Doncaster, Roundhouse Engineering has gained a global reputation for high precision model engineering with a selection of its top-quality products being featured on Channel 4’s Biggest Little Railway in January 2018.

After turning a life-long hobby into a business 36 years ago, Roundhouse Engineering now employs 20 staff.

Harri Harrison, General Manager at Roundhouse Engineering commented: “I’m delighted to say that the business is performing really strongly having seen an increase in turnover in 2018, demonstrating just how in demand our locomotives are!

“We have already made great use of the support and offerings made available from Business Doncaster.

“I recently attended a GDPR Masterclass that has proven invaluable in helping us to update our privacy policy and ensure compliance while continuing to take orders from across the UK and Europe.”

Sharon Finch, Key Account Manager at Business Doncaster added: “It’s great to see the progress Roundhouse Engineering has made to date and it was a pleasure to host them at our business Masterclasses.

“We also supported with the understanding and implementation of a social media strategy, health & safety processes and HR regulations, all of which contribute to a successful, growing business.”

The Enhancement Project provides businesses with intensive one-to-one support from a Key Account Manager and access to free Masterclasses delivered by private sector experts.
