A Harrogate school is hosting a Pentathlon taster/training day this weekend, where participants will receive expert coaching in a number of the sport’s component parts.

The Modern Pentathlon is an extension of the Biathlon and comprises of the five sports of running, swimming, pistol shooting, fencing and horse riding.

The event at Ashville College will see training being given in swimming, laser & pellet shooting, fencing, and fitness & athletics.

Being held between 9.30am and 4pm on Sunday, November 3, at the college’s Yew Tree Lane Sport Centre, the day will end with a laser run competition which is open to everyone, regardless of ability.

Ashville College, which has joined forces with Yorkshire Pentathlon to become a regional training centre for athletes from across the county, and all but the show jumping are available at the school’s campus.

Duncan Archer, Head of Swimming and Athletics at Ashville, said: “Our pentathlon taster/training days are proving very popular and give youngsters a real flavor of what this sport entails.

“Thanks to partnership with Yorkshire Pentathlon we are helping to introduce it, and our facilities, to children from across the Harrogate District and further afield.”
